Structural - Cladding a Steel Lintol in Oak - Fern BankSometimes architects have strange ideas best known to themselves. For this project we were asked to take a new oak beam and cut it down to sit against a steel boot lintel, with a soffit return underneath.
The steel lintel in question!
The Oak beam cut in two. A lip has been cut along the length of the oak beam so it overhangs the steel lintel for a soffit return. Perpendicular angled slots are also being cut to accomodate the bracing fins on the steel boot lintel.
Detail of slots being cut and cleaned out.
Cutting the tenon for the soffit, and the profile of the oak beam after cutting.
Still to come, images of the beam in place.......
